How to Self Manage your My Aged Care Package

We understand that having flexibility and control over your services and choosing your preferred support workers is really important to you. Greater control of the scheduling, cost, quality, frequency and delivery of the services are some of the benefits that come with managing your own My Aged Care Package. Electing to be Self-Managed can give your greater flexibility in the services you can choose from.

As a Self-Managed My Aged Package participant, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Finding your own services providers for cleaning, nursing, support workers, gardening, trades etc.

  • Scheduling of your services and entering into Service Agreements with Providers

  • Paying your service Providers and keeping records of invoices that are detailed correctly (for reimbursement purposes)

  • Seeking reimbursement of these through your My Aged Care registered provider

  • Managing your My Aged Care Package budget

To change the management of your My Aged Care Package to be Self-Managed follow these simple steps:

  1. Discuss if this might be a good option for you with your carer or trusted family member.

  2. Request a meeting with your Current Provider and request to be a Self-Managed participant.

  3. Discuss with your Current Provider what their policy is on servicing Self-Managed participants and any fees that your budget will incur for their administrative services to ensuring compliance with My Aged Care regulations.

  4. Shopping around for another Provider that does offer this service or one that can offer a reduced administrative fee may be required.

  5. Update your Care Plan with your chosen Provider and sign a new Service Agreement that clearly outlines both parties responsibilities.

  6. You are now ready to engage your chosen Providers to suit your needs.
